“Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Gen.4:9). The human desire to shirk responsibility to our fellow man goes back to Cain and Abel. Today’s readings all emphasize our connectedness and mutual responsibility for one another within the Body of Christ. Ezekiel was called to be the “watchman of Israel”. St. Paul instructs us on the proper relationship between citizens and government. And in our Gospel lesson, Jesus calls us to pay heed to those “little ones” and lost sheep who need our help. Indeed, we are our brother’s keeper!
