Pentecost 19C Building on the Promises of God Part 11: Justice Will Prevail
Luke 18:1-8 Somewhere along the line of our days we have all learned that life is not always fair. In fact, there is a whole lot of injustice in this world. We work for justice and God has given us government to help bring about greater justice among us. But sometimes it remains. As we say, “Life isn’t always fair.” In Luke 18 Jesus tells us a parable that helps us deal with the injustice we may experience. The parable…
Pentecost 15C Building on the Promises of God Part 8: Christ Is Praying for You
Romans 8:34 The Scriptures remind us that prayer for all people is an important part of our worship and daily life. But did you know that Jesus is also praying for you? He is at the right hand of the Father interceding for you. That doesn’t mean you get a pass on the troubles of life. But what does it mean? Sermon Date: September 22, 2019
Pentecost10C Building on the Promises of God Part 3: God Hears and Answers Your Prayers
Luke 11:1-13 We pray, but not nearly as much or as insistently as we should. Jesus’ teaching on prayer and his parable of the impudent neighbor gives us three reasons to pray more diligently; 1) the example of Jesus’ own prayer life, 2) God’s eagerness to hear our prayers, and 3) God answers us with good gifts. Sermon Date: August 18, 2019
Pentecost 3C Overcoming Discouragement

But James 5;17 reminds us that “Elijah was a man just like us” meaning that even those of faith can struggle with discouragement. That is helpful to know but of itself is no solution. But the rest of the story is. Elijah’s story helps us to find resources for overcoming discouragement: fleeing to God, being sustained by God, a new vision from God…
Pentecost C Joining Jesus Pt 3: Doing Good and Praying
John 14:23-31 In response to Jesus informing his disciple that he was going away (ascending onto heaven) Judas (not Iscariot) had a question, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” Good question right? The sermon today will explore two things. First, Jesus’s answer to the question. Second, how this answer dovetails with the Joining Jesus Mission Practices. Sermon Date: June 9, 2019
1/20/2019 Epiphany 2 John 2:1-11 Faith that God is Good
Have you ever felt rebuffed by God, like your prayer gets about as far as the ceiling and just bounces back? It is not an uncommon experience and something that Mary, Jesus’ mother, experienced too. Feeling rebuffed can lead us down a bad path of bitterness and non-responsiveness to God. But there is another way. Mary shows us what that is.
