Just “a little while”. When Jesus told his disciples that he would be gone from them “a little while”, their reaction was like ours often is when someone tells us that (Jn 16). We want to know EXACTLY, how long is “a little while”? The three days that Jesus spent in a tomb may have felt like an eternity to them in their grief. And waiting for Jesus to return can feel just as long for Christians today who are struggling. But Christ has made his promise. He is coming again to “make all things new” (Rev. 21). And compared to the grand scope of eternity, our present waiting really is just a little while. Thanks be to God!
