Sometimes the Word of the Lord falls on us “like fire … and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces” (Jer. 23:29). His Law pricks our consciences; only His Gospel can give us relief. We see God’s Word fulfilled at the foot of Christ’s cross and in the empty tomb that proclaimed His resurrection from the dead. Knowing that Jesus has conquered death and obtained life everlasting for us, we find the strength (and even more the joy) of spiritual endurance. So let us fix our eyes on him, “the founder and perfecter of our faith”. (Heb 12)
