When we find something really, really good, we often say, “I couldn’t resist it!” What could be better than the good news of Jesus and his Kingdom? And yet, people do resist the Gospel all the time and for many reasons. This has confounded believers since Bible times. Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower to help his disciples understand that the power of God’s Word is not a coercive or controlling power that forces people into believing it. Many factors can cause a person to resist God’s invitation to trust in Him for eternal life. But God is a generous sower who never stops casting His seed, hoping to see it take root and grow.
