God’s Kingdom is a place of abundant provision! Both the Old and New Testaments are well stocked with imagery of fruitful vines, rivers of refreshing water and banquet tables stacked with delicious food – all provided by our good and gracious God. The rebellious spirit of sinful Man has, throughout history, despised and despoiled these blessings. Examples of this appear in all three of today’s readings – most potently in Jesus’ Parable of the Wicked Tenants. It promises divine judgment on those who despise God’s Son and reject His holy fruit. But these same readings also point to the restoration, righteousness and abundant life God offers us in Christ.
