“Cuidado – Attention – Achtung!” In many public places you’ll find signs like these warning everyone to stay alert for potential dangers in their environment. Today’s Gospel reading for this First Sunday in Lent reminds us that our world is also filled with spiritual traps and pitfalls – things that tempt us to doubt God’s Word and jeopardize our salvation. Right at the beginning of his ministry, Christ confronted these dangers head on! He was subjected to the devil’s temptations, but wielded God’s mighty Word as an effective weapon to resist and stand firm. Knowing we have a Savior who fights for us, we too can stand firm in our faith when tempted.
