For week four, read Ecclesiastes 7:1-29. Then consider the following questions:
One way to avoid unnecessary frustration is by being honest about our own emotions. Based on the what you’ve read so far about the Preacher’s observations of life, why do you think he prefers sadness over laughter (7:3)? Why is it important that we acknowledge and find healthy ways to express our anger (7:9)? How does the Preacher suggest we deal with criticism from others (7:21-22)? The Preacher’s relationships with women brought him much frustration (7:26). How does 1 Kings 11:1-2 shed light on his own foolish behavior?
THE VOICE OF JESUS — Read Luke 6:21 and Romans 12:15 to hear our Lord’s wisdom on the place for sorrow in our lives, and how he will redeem it. Read Ephesians 4:26-27 that talks about managing our anger in a Godly way. Read Proverbs 29:25 that tells us whose opinion really matters. Read Ephesians 5:28 for a description of how a husband should love and honor his wife.
